Assisted Stretching Therapy in Old Saybrook, CT

You probably know you should stretch more. You probably also know your solo stretches don't reach where you actually need them to. Assisted stretching is the answer to that gap. A trained therapist moves your body through targeted stretches you can't effectively achieve alone, while you stay completely passive.

Massage and Motion is one of the few studios in Connecticut that offers dedicated Assisted Stretching Therapy. It's faster, deeper, and more effective than solo stretching, and it requires nothing from you except showing up.

How assisted stretching is different from yoga, PT, and solo stretching

The four approaches overlap, but they're not the same. Quick comparison:

The difference matters because most flexibility gains require the muscle to relax fully while being lengthened and you can't relax fully while simultaneously using the same muscle to hold yourself in position. A therapist takes you past that limit.

What happens in a session

Sessions are fully clothed — wear loose, comfortable clothing for the best results. You'll be on a stretching table while your therapist moves your body through a sequence of targeted stretches based on your goals and any areas of restriction. The therapist controls:

  • The angle and direction of each stretch

  • The depth of the stretch

  • How long each position is held

  • Layered techniques like PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) for deeper gains

  • Pacing is slow, sustained holds versus dynamic mobility patterns

You don't need to know stretching anatomy. Just communicate what you feel, when something is at the edge, when something feels different on one side, when something needs to back off.
