Sports Massage in Old Saybrook, CT

Clinical, performance-focused bodywork for athletes, weekend warriors, and anyone training hard. Led by Christopher Stubbs, LMT (CT #10808) a degree-qualified Sports Therapist, former international rugby player, and 15+ years of clinical experience.

What is sports massage?

Sports massage blends deep tissue work, trigger point release, assisted stretching, friction, and compression to address the specific demands of athletic muscle and connective tissue. The goal isn't relaxation, it's tissue repair, range-of-motion restoration, scar tissue management, and getting back to training without compensating around pain.

Three ways we program sessions:

  • Pre-event (24–48 hours before): Brisk, stimulating. Activation and circulation

  • Post-event (within 72 hours): Slow, flushing. Lactic acid clearance and recovery.

  • Maintenance (year-round): Deep, corrective work. Chronic tightness and movement quality

Who it's for

You don't need to be elite. Sports massage at Massage and Motion serves:

  • Runners, cyclists, and triathletes in training or recovery

  • CrossFit, powerlifting, and strength athletes

  • Golfers, tennis, and pickleball players managing repetitive strain

  • Weekend warriors whose tissue isn't recovering as fast as they train

  • Anyone returning to sport after injury or surgery

What's included in a session

Every session starts with a quick check-in on what you're training for, what's changed, and where you need the most work. From there, Chris builds a session that may include:

  • Deep Tissue and Trigger Point Therapy

  • Myofascial Release and Assisted Stretching

  • Clinical Cupping or Gua Sha

  • Kinesiology Taping

No fixed protocol. A marathoner with IT band issues gets a different session than a powerlifter with a locked-up upper back.
